Wanna see Dracula, ghost, Lucifer, or local ghost; Pontianak, Pocong alive and walking among ourselves??? Most people can find easily during Halloween Day because on this day people dress according to their favorite “ghost hero”. In this day people go around to surprise each other with their scary costume, so watch out for those who afraid of ghost and have heart problem.
This day(Halloween day) and Valentine day are 2 of the most controversial days for some country. I don’t wanna state which country but for me what ever the regulations in those country I still respect and follow it, as one of the Malay proverb state “Dimana Bumi Di Pijak, Di Situ Langit Di Junjung” [wherever you go, respect that culture]
So let’s put the differences and controversies aside and try to look in other angle and that what I’m going to share with all of you about how people celebrate Halloween day in Timor – Leste.
In Timor-Leste, Halloween day is kind of religious day because people consider this day as day for those who past away so in this day usually all the schools and offices are off. In early morning many people go to church and pray for the souls and in afternoon they will visit cemeteries(graves) as sign of love for those people who passed away.
One of the good thing about Halloween day is that on this day, we will have a lot of food such as ketupat, Lemang, Nasi Ayam & etc. So here in Malaysia people will eat katupat, lemang during Idul Fitri but its different for Timorese people.
So now…we can see how people celebrate Halloween in different ways, people in the western country associated Halloween as day ghost party whereas people in eastern associated Halloween as religious day…..
Since tomorrow is going to be “Halloween Day” therefore I just wanna to this say
God..I know I am not worthy to pray to you
Because I am sinners
I was born because of sin, grow up in sin, live in sin world
And I will die with sin
But there is only one thing I just wanna say: accept those souls that you have call back and bring them into your eternal kingdom….Amin.
